Personal Background

Fr. Eduardo R. Rocha, SVD is serving his second term as the Provincial Superior of the SVD Philippines Southern (PHS) Province and is Vice Chair of the USC Board of Trustees. He is a religious missionary of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) and was ordained a priest on November 10, 1979.

Fr. Rocha was the PHS Vice Provincial to Fr. Heinz Kulueke, SVD since 2005 and assumed the office of PHS Provincial Superior in 2012 when Fr. Kulueke elected Superior General of the congregation. Fr. Rocha was elected for his first term as PHS Provincial Superior for the triennium 2014–17.

He was the General Manager of Steyler Food, Inc. in 2005 until its closure in March 2013. He was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Holy Name University Medical Center (2011–12), Chancellor (ad-extra) of Liceo del Verbo Divino (2006–08), and served as Rector of the Divine Word Formation Center (2005–07), St. Michael SVD Residence (2008–10), and St. Joseph Freinademetz Formation House (2010–11).

Serving as a missionary and chaplain in the Italian Province in 1991–93, Fr. Rocha ministered to Filipinos in Padua and Vicenza, Italy. Returning to the Philippines, he shepherded Our Lady of the Pillar (1993–95) and Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Parish (1996–97) in Surigao del Norte. Fr. Rocha was then appointed as Episcopal Vicar for Siargao Island (1994–2002) and Dinagat Island (1998–2001).

Earning degrees in philosophy and theology from the Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay with an M.A. in Philosophy, Fr. Rocha also served as Vice President for Administration of USC (1984–90) and Holy Name University (Tagbilaran, 2002–04). Currently, Fr. Rocha is the Chair of the Executive Committee of the Asia-Pacific Zone of the congregation.
