Quality Education is always a noble intention for all educational institutions. How to achieve this goal is at times an overwhelming challenge. For Basic Education, one crucial goal is to provide pupils and students the foundational know-how for them to cross to the next level, and in the process, imbibe in most of them that basic education training deemed preparatory for the tertiary level of education.
Department of Education Order 31 signals the official implementation of the K to 12 Program, and eventually this will radically change the way basic education is to be delivered. Thus, from the foundational and the preparatory it will understandably be terminal. This means that a K to 12 graduate is expected to be ready for employment possibilities and will be presented with concrete options in furthering his/her future career choices.
The University of San Carlos Basic Education Department has embraced educational reform under the Aquino Government and is moving forward to dealing with the challenges head on. The success of this program will be collaborative in nature and trailblazing new initiatives in line with DepEd’s directions will pave the way to a collective ownership of the proposed career pathways and the like. Indeed, it is fitting that this year, our University theme for all institutional events and activities is – Glocalized Education: Owning our Challenges!
