Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences

The College of Arts and Sciences is the home of several nationally accredited undergraduate and graduate programs.  Scientific inquiry and historical awareness, social relations, and general welfare are themes flowing through the curriculum, which are imagined, formulated, and implemented by dedicated and accomplished faculty members who constantly seek regular updating, engage in innovative research and artistically creative endeavors.

With two divisions (Arts division and Sciences Division) covering ten academic departments and several affiliated centers and institutes, the College of Arts and Sciences provides an environment where students may both explore a wide range of interests and find their areas of specialization.

The College’s curricular offerings teach students to discover knowledge independently, and to think critically, creatively, and analytically.

The College prepares students for professional careers and provides them with the foundation for lifelong learning.  It also has the primary responsibility for the two-year general education curriculum required of all students of the university.

At the very heart of a premier university…

While the University of San Carlos is recognized as a premier teaching and emerging research university, at the very heart of this great university is the College of Arts and Sciences.  The College is the oldest and the largest of the University’s eight colleges.  Today, it enrolls more than 3,300 students in more than 50 curricular programs, both undergraduate and graduate levels; and more than 18,000 students in the general education courses

The College of Arts and Sciences is a learning community…

Steeped in proud tradition, but energized with an inspired focus on the future, the College of Arts and Sciences is an institution of opportunity.  This vibrant learning community is created by dedicated and inspired teaching faculty, some of whom are also recognized researchers.  The College is sustained by equally great accomplished students, who have proven to be some of the brightest not only in the local community but in the country as a whole, whose expectations for intellectual achievement set the standard for academic performance.  The continued involvement of the alumni, who are now occupying key positions in the government and private institutions, makes the curricular offerings more at tuned with the current demands.

Opportunity abounds…

In the College’s two divisions, there are 10 academic departments and more than 40 undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs.  The rigors of the classroom and laboratory are complemented by an array of leadership opportunities in extracurricular activities.

Excellence and constant improvement of the curriculum and teaching are the standards, and all facets of the College’s degree programs are evaluated on a continual basis by internal and external evaluators.  While the level of scholarship in the College is second to none, it is also known as a place where young people are given the support and mentoring to succeed and excel in their studies, learn the importance of integrity and high ethical values, and to strengthen their spirituality. The College is committed to offering a broad education that will lay a durable foundation for critical and creative thinking.  While advancing to its motto: Scientia Virtus Devotio, it is committed to exercising its core values, namely, Integrity, Excellence, Commitment, Social Responsibility, Evangelization, and Leadership.
