The National Academy of Science and Technology, Philippines (NAST PHL) has selected Dr. Landonn Ocampo, faculty of the USC Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, as one of the 2017 Outstanding Young Scientist (OYS) awardees in the field of Industrial Engineering.
Awardees will personally accept the award and attend the Academy’s two-day Annual Scientific Meeting on July 12-13. They are also encouraged to attend the Outstanding Young Scientists, Inc. Annual Meeting and Convention on July 11 at the Manila Hotel.
As an OYS awardee, Dr. Ocampo will receive a trophy and cash prize of P125, 000.00 from NAST PHL. He will also receive from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) a research grant of P500, 000.00 upon approval of a research/project proposal.
Dr. Danilo Largo, Director of the USC Office of Research, was also awarded as an Outstanding Young Scientist in 1999.
Dr. Ocampo acquired his PhD degree in Industrial Engineering from De La Salle University, Manila, and MEng degree in Industrial Engineering from USC under the DOST-ERDT scholarships grants. He also received his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering (cum laude) from USC under the DOST undergraduate scholarship grant.
Dr. Ocampo has authored over fifty published and forthcoming journal papers, a book chapter and two Scopus-indexed conference papers. His publications appeared in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Manufacturing Systems, Applied Ergonomics, Journal of Air Transport Management, Advances in Production Engineering and Management, International Journal of Sustainable Engineering, Asian Academy of Management Journal, among other journals.
He has presented papers in over forty conferences and is a regular reviewer of international peer-reviewed, indexed journals in industrial and production engineering, decision science, management science and manufacturing research which include International Journal of Industrial and Systems Engineering, International Journal of Global Environmental Issues, International Journal of Management and Decision-Making, International Journal of Disaster Risk Science, journal of Environment, Development and Sustainability, Advances in Production Engineering and Management, Journal of Management Analytics, International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering, International Journal of Family Business and Regional Development, Journal of Cleaner Production, International Journal of Sustainable Engineering, Jordan Journal of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Journal of Engineering Science and Technology, Industrial and Systems Engineering Review.
His research interests include optimization, multiple criteria decision-making and sustainable manufacturing. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering, IGI-Global, Associate Editor of the Recoletos Multidisciplinary Research Journal, Associate Editor of the Journal of Modelling, Editorial Board Member of the Advances in Production Engineering and Management, Editorial Board Member of the USC Graduate Journal and Council Member of the Proceedings of Manufacturing Systems journal.
He won numerous awards from the DOST-Science and Education Institute for completing the PhD, the DOST for the National Award for Excellence in Science, the Mathematical Society of the Philippines Cebu for Best Research Paper in Applied Mathematics during the 2015 MSP Cebu Convention, the International Association on Organizational Innovation for the Outstanding Paper Award during the 2014 ICOI, the Fairchild Semiconductor for the 2012 Best Paper Award.
He is a member of the International Society of Multiple Criteria Decision Making, Industrial Engineering and Operations Management Society, International Association of Engineers, Mathematical Society of the Philippines, and the Alpha Phi Omega International Philippines, Inc.
The OYS Awards is an annual recognition given by NAST to young Filipino scientists who have made significant contributions to science and technology.
