The University of San Carlos Press is proud to announce the launching of its latest coffee table book entitled “The War in Cebu” on December 8, 2015, the 74th anniversary of the start of the Pacific War. The event will be held at 4 o’clock in the afternoon at the Activity Center of Ayala Center Cebu and coincides with an exhibit of 30 select photographs from the book.
“The War in Cebu” is released by USC Press also to commemorate the 70th anniversary this year of the end of that brutal period in world history.
The 240-page book is co-authored by multi-awarded essayist and social historian Dr. Resil Mojares; newspaper columnist Valeriano “Bobit” Avila; American war historian and army veteran Col. Dave Taylor; USC Press manager Dr. Jojo Bersales; and American Navy archivist David Colamaria.
Nearly 500 photographs, many of them shown for the first time, complete the book, which tackles the entire period of the Japanese invasion and occupation of Cebu up to the pre-liberation bombings by American forces in late 1944 and the fateful Japanese surrender on August 28, 1945.
