Four USC Department of Pharmacy students participated in a two-week research, pharmacy practice, and cultural exposure last March 12 to 24, 2023 at Walailak University (WU), Thailand.
Lord Sam Liston, Bea May Remedio, Sophia Pagaran, and Jan Mariel Gentiles were immersed in the pharmacy practice in Thailand, particularly in pharmaceutical manufacturing and health systems pharmacy settings. They were also trained in pharmaceutical research by professors at Walailak University in the areas of ethosomal drug delivery, synthesis of bioactive glass nanoparticles, and protein analysis.
Meanwhile, five pharmacy students, the Vice Dean, the School Dean, and a professor of Walailak University also visited Cebu and the University of San Carlos on April 23 to May 2, 2023. The WU students engaged in pharmaceutical technology training and immersion with the USC-adopted community on health literacy. Additionally, they actively participated in pharmacy lectures and experienced pharmacy education in the country during their visit.
USC Department of Pharmacy expanded the benefit of the exchange program by hosting a training on Case-Based Learning teaching and technical practices on teaching pharmaceutics courses by Dr. Pajaree Sakdiset for all Cebu-based pharmacy schools.
The partnership offers academic collaboration between the faculty members and the Department of Pharmacy and marks the first-ever partnership between the two institutions. The exchange also sought to enhance and promote intercultural dialogue, broaden the perspective of professional pharmacy practice, and effective problem-solving within different cultural nuances.
