Medical Biophysics Group bags DOST PCIEERD’s EPIC Award

The University of San Carlos Medical Biophysics Group (MBG) received the prestigious Excellence in Project Implementation and Completion (EPIC) Award on June 19, 2024, in Dusit Thani, Makati City, Philippines.

The EPIC award is given to research institutions that successfully completed their projects on time with no extensions and with a 100-percent budget utilization. 

Project leader and  Dr. Rommel G. Bacabac received the award on behalf of the MBG for their work, “Pectin-Carrageenan Mixture (PCM): High Precision Characterization of Hydrogel Heterogeneity Properties with Optical Tweezers and FESEM Imaging.” 

The award was given by the Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) during its 14th Founding Anniversary. 

Aside from PCM, Dr. Bacabac also heads other DOST projects and is the program leader for the DOST-designated USC Center for Tissue Engineering and Biological Soft Materials.
