Beyond Blueprints: USC Civil Engineering students earn back-to-back national recognitions in arts and academics

The University of San Carlos (USC) Civil Engineering Department is celebrating consecutive achievements as two of its students earned top recognitions in both artistic and academic competitions held on August 23, 2025.

Third-year civil engineering student Jhan Aldrin Carilimdiliman secured 2nd place in the Digital Category of the Manila Bulletin SKETCHFEST 2025, a nationwide art competition with the theme,“How Life Is Better” held on Saturday, August 23, 2025. The awarding ceremony took place at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, where Carilimdiliman was recognized for the second consecutive year. (See related story here.) His back-to-back win highlights the versatility of USC engineering students, demonstrating that technical training and creative expression can thrive side by side.

On the same day, fourth-year student Joshua Albert Go earned 2nd place at the National Civil Engineering Students’ Quiz Regional Elimination Round held at the DPWH 6th District Engineering Office. Competing against 20 participants from across Region 7, Joshua’s performance secured his position as one of only two regional representatives advancing to the national-level competition later this year.

The department also celebrates strong performances from Rican James Montejo and Jebb Irvin Yu, who ranked 6th and 8th, respectively, in the same regional quiz elimination. Their accomplishments reflect the department’s collective dedication to academic excellence.

With these milestones, the USC Civil Engineering Department continues to strengthen its reputation for producing well-rounded graduates who excel in multiple disciplines. The department looks forward to supporting both Jhan and Joshua as they prepare for future competitions on the national stage.
