With heavy hearts, the Carolinian community remembers Fr. Florante S. Camacho, SVD, who passed away on December 25 at the age of 86. Fr. Camacho was a shepherd, an educator, and a leader whose service quietly shaped generations beyond the classroom.

He served as the President of the University of San Carlos from 1982 to 1987, leading with vision, wisdom, and a deep sense of mission. He assumed the USC presidency amidst a faltering economic landscape. Known among SVD circles as “the troubleshooter,” Fr. Camacho was frequently called upon to help SVD institutions recover from various crises.
His legacy lives on in the lives he guided, the communities he strengthened, and the spirit of dedication he exemplified, one that continues to inspire Carolinians to serve with compassion and purpose.
The University of San Carlos joins family, friends, and the broader Catholic community in giving thanks for a life well lived, a vocation faithfully answered, and a legacy that time cannot dim. .
Rest in peace, Fr. Flor. You will always be part of our Carolinian story.
