The University of San Carlos community proudly celebrates the excellent performance of our student delegates in the 3D Design and Printing Innovation Challenge, Ready Pilot One: Drone Race Challenge, and “Techno Salida” (short film) categories during the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) 2026, organized by DOST Regional Office VII.
In the 3D Design and Printing Innovation Challenge, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering students Airam Gian Navasquez, John Briggs Licayan, Giovanni Arcelo, Nick Anthony Miras, Earl Dwayne Amora, Brunson Bollozos, together with their adviser, Engr. Rab Azel F. Barredo stand proud as they pose with their well-deserved awards (see photo below).

Joining in on this joyful triumph are B.S. Civil Engineering student Floyd Calvin M. Verdida and B.S. Chemistry student Vincent Lima. Both students were 2nd runners-up in their respective categories—Verdida for the drone race challenge and Lima for his short film, “RX: Innovation.”
Navasquez, Licayan, and Arcelo (Team 1) were hailed as Champions and bagged the Innovation Readiness Award for their FiSHRS (Filtration System for House Rainwater Storage)—a support-free, modular filtration system designed to make clean rainwater collection easy and accessible for communities in Olango Island. Weighing only 175 grams and taking only five hours to print, FiSHRS is a significant and practical solution for water filtration in remote island communities.

Meanwhile, Miras, Amora, and Bollozos (Team 2) took home a consolation award for their outstanding entry, PRE Filter. The prototype won the award for its excellent technical design, creativity, and additive manufacturing features that represent the high standards of USC’s Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Department.
Under the guidance of their adviser, Engr. Barredo, these community-centric prototypes prove that Carolinian engineers design with meaningful purpose—to elevate and empower local communities.
These awards reflect not only the University’s high-caliber pedagogy, but also the purpose-driven education designed to unleash our students’ unique capabilities.
