The University of San Carlos Campus Ministry-Downtown Campus organized a visit to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) last February 5, 2019.
Participants of the hospital visit were students Maikka Intal, Roberto de los Angeles, Trixia Geyrosaga, Therese Angela Aparece, Nidelito Jorda, Jr, Adrianne Angus, Denzel Rafanan, Joshua Abayon, Marnie Impas, Ruffa Casañares, Anne Katherine Aguilar, Megan Marie Josol. They were led by campus ministers Norieza Marte, Frt. Louigie Pontillo, SVD, and University Chaplain Fr. Jun Balay, SVD.
The team visited over 100 patients mostly infants and children. Moving from ward to ward, they sang encouraging and spiritual songs, and distributed bundles of joy while Fr. Balay blessed the patients and listened to their confessions. Patients responded with smiles and words of gratitude, some even shedding tears.
After the visit, the team went back to the Downtown Campus where they reflected about their experience. Many described the visit as a wholesome and inspiring activity and were grateful for having been given the chance to reach out to those who were suffering physical ailments. This activity highlighted the Carolinian Devotio, that is, a way of sharing Christ’s love through concrete actions in our community and society.
The hospital visit is an activity that began when Fr. Balay assumed the campus chaplaincy three years ago.
