Personal Background
Fr. Jesuraj Anthoniappen is the Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of San Carlos starting 2nd semester AY2020–21, having previously served as Assistant Vice President in the past semester. He also served as the Graduate Program coordinator of the Department of Physics, where he is an Assistant Professor. He is also an Editorial Board member of the Australian Journal of Science and Technology. He is an SVD missionary and was ordained a priest on May 10, 2010.
Recognized with the RULA Research Leadership Award for 2020, Fr. Jesu was cited as an innovative researcher in ferroelectric functional materials, which is his area of expertise earning his Ph.D. in Physics from the Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei, Taiwan after which he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Monash University campus in Malaysia. Proficient in solid-state methods for ceramic materials preparation and advanced imaging techniques for the development of energy storage and conversion devices, he has published over twenty papers in international, peer-reviewed materials journals.
Hailing back to an era of scholar-priests, Fr. Jesu completed his Bachelor of Science in Physics-Chemistry-Mathematics at St. Philomena’s College in Mysore, India and his Master of Science in Solid State Physics at the University of Mysore. He then obtained two bachelor degrees in Philosophy from the SVD Vidya Bhavan Institute of Philosophy and Religion (Bhopal, India) and in Theology from the Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth Pontifical Institute of Philosophy and Religion (Pune, India) before leaving his home country to serve as a missionary to the Philippines. After teaching for two years at the USC Department of Physics, he went to Taiwan to obtain his Ph.D.
