The USC Tech Hub team together with engineering chairs and senior faculty members (see photo above) went to Bohol Island State University (BISU) on June 27-29, 2018 to participate in the FabLab Workshop on Digital Fabrication. The workshop aimed to facilitate first-hand experience in the operation of different machines, allowing participants to learn 21st century fabrication skills.This workshop was organized by Carolinian BRIDGES in partnership with FabLab Bohol headed by Technical Manager Jerome P. Manatad with the approval of BISU president Dr. Zina D. Sayson.
Dean Evelyn B. Taboada, Ph.D. headed the 20-strong USC contingent which included Engrs. Fritz Nichole Abad, Luzvisminda Bellotindos, Ph.D., Luis Cabatingan, Angelo Cabije, Ph.D., Mark Anthony Cabilo, Jefferson Cañada, James Michael Cañete, Imadyl Damuag, Percival Forcadilla, Ricardo Fornis, Christine Marie Gohetia, Michael Loretero, Renan Maglasang, Warren Nuñez, Aure Flo Oraya, Linda Saavedra, Armando Siez, May Tampus, and Van Vergara.
The workshop was facilitated by four resource speakers, namely Manatad, Alfred C. Vicere, Romel B. Tugap, and Niño J. Sepe, who taught the participants the basic operations of the fabrication machines. The laboratory exercises included Laser Cutting and Engraving, 1:1 Scale Modeling (Big CNC), Digital Embroidery, Small CNC, 3D Printing, and Packaging and Labeling.
FabLab Bohol was established on May 2, 2014 through a Japanese volunteer, Yutaka Tokushima. It operates in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), BISU, and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). FabLab operations include classes, trainings, workshops, and livelihood programs.
