Carolinian excellence on the world stage: USC athletes deliver SEA Games medals for the Philippines

From the tracks and training grounds of Cebu to the podiums of the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, the University of San Carlos once again proved that Carolinian excellence knows no borders.

Carolinian athletes Andrew Kim Remolino, Franklin Ferdie Yee, Matthew Justine Hermosa, and ArtJoy Torregosa proudly represented the Philippines at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, delivering medal-winning performances that reflected not only elite athleticism, but also the discipline, resilience, and character shaped by their years at USC.

Triathlete Andrew Kim Remolino (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Marketing Management) delivered a career-defining performance at the SEA Games, capping a successful campaign with a silver medal in the men’s individual triathlon. He also played a crucial role in securing the Philippines’ first triathlon gold of the games, as part of the mixed relay team, marking his first SEA Games gold medal.

Remolino finished the competition with an impressive four-medal haul from a single SEA Games, the most in his international career, earning gold in the mixed relay triathlon, silver medals in the mixed relay aquathlon and men’s individual triathlon, and a bronze medal in the men’s relay aquathlon.

For his part, Franklin Ferdie Yee (B.S. Business Administration) captured a silver medal in duathlon, marking his first podium finish at the SEA Games. Yee’s rise from university competition to international success highlights USC’s strong support for student-athletes who balance academic commitment with elite athletic performance. Earlier this year, he also emerged as the overall champion of the Cebu duathlon, further establishing himself as one of the country’s promising multi-sport athletes.

Adding to the Philippines’ medal haul was Matthew Justine Hermosa (B.S. B.A. major in Marketing Management), who delivered strong performances in triathlon events. Hermosa won gold in the men’s team relay (triathlon) and silver in the mixed team relay (aquathlon).

USC also proudly honors alumna and Physical Education graduate ArtJoy Torregosa, who made her SEA Games debut in the women’s marathon. She delivered a remarkable performance over the grueling 42-kilometer distance, clinching a silver medal. Torregosa’s achievement not only brought honor to the Carolinian community but also showcased her dedication and Carolinian spirit on the international stage, proving that USC alumni continue to excel and inspire long after graduation.

These achievements are strongly connected to coach Arvin Loberanis, a former athlete who guided Yee and Torregosa and led the University of San Carlos to countless championships. His mentorship has been instrumental in helping USC athletes excel both in academics and on the international stage.

As Remolino, Yee, Hermosa, and Torregosa continue their journeys, they stand as inspirations to the next generation of Carolinians, proof that in faith, discipline, and hard work, the path from Talamban to the SEA Games podium is possible.

CONGRATULATIONS CAROLINIANS!
