The University is saddened to learn of the passing of Fr. Teodoro “Ted” P. Gapuz, SVD today, February 8, 2020.
Fr. Ted served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of San Carlos from 2005 to 2008. He also served as Arts and Sciences Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Holy Name University (HNU) in Tagbilaran City after his USC assignment. His last post was as consultant of the Center for Religious Education and Mission at HNU. He previously served in various assignments for the Society of the Divine Word in Laoag City, Tagbilaran City, Tacloban City, and Manila before coming to USC, as well as in several government positions.
Born on July 17, 1941 in Agoo, La Union to Atty. Bernardo Gapuz and Irene Padilla-Gapuz, both deceased, Fr. Ted had three brothers and one sister, all of whom are also deceased.
He completed his A.B. Philosophy at Christ the King Seminary in Quezon City, and his degree in Theology at Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay City. Fr. Ted then went on a Ford Foundation fellowship to Stanford University where he completed his M.A. in Education. He was ordained a priest on December 3, 1967.
