Anthoddiemn Olin M. Navarro, an M.S. graduate fellow of the USC Mosquito Research Laboratory (MRL) bagged second place in the competition for non-experimental research podium presentations during the 8th Central Visayas Health Research and Innovation Conference (CVHRIC) held at Siquijor State College on May 10-12, 2023.
Navarro’s presentation is entitled “Detection of Wolbachia in Aedes aegypti in Selected Cebu City Sites” and is under the mentorship of Dr. Frances E. Edillo.
The CVHRIC is an annual event organized by the Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development (CVHRD) of the Department of Science and Technology Region VII (DOST-7).
The conference showcases health research performed by Central Visayan Higher Education Institutions through competitions for podium presentations, posters, infomercials, infographics, and booth exhibits, among others.
This year’s theme, “The Roles of the Academe, Industry, and Government in the Attainment of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals,” manifests the continuing cooperation of the trifecta in pushing forward the country’s development through research and innovation.
The three-day event included plenary sessions from experts in health research from both private and public sectors. It was attended by Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., DOST Secretary; Dr. Leah J. Buendia, DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development; Dr. Jaime C. Montoya, Executive Director II of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development; and Dr. Enrico B. Gruet, Chair of CVHRD along with regional representatives from Department of Health and National Economic and Development Authority.
