The University of San Carlos’ School of Architecture Fine Arts and Design’s (USC SAFAD) held its annual Design Awards and Exhibit last February 18 to March 1, 2019 at the Mountain Wing of SM Seaside Cebu City.
Carrying the theme “Finding Your Hue,” the exhibit highlighted the cream of the crop among the creative outputs produced by the SAFAD students. The exhibit is one of the culminating activities of the school year and is composed of the best student projects and plates from the Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture, Advertising Arts, Painting Arts, Fashion Design, and Cinema programs. It also includes works from the various specializations of the Graduate School of Architecture, namely Urban Design, Interior Architecture, Architectural Science, and Landscape Architecture.
A closing program highlighted by the much-anticipated Design Awards capped the creative showcase of budding Carolinian designers. Medals and citations were given to deserving students for their excellent projects and plates in their Design classes.
Bronze Awards were given to 4th year Architecture students Art Joshua Aguirre, Ian Jules Buligan, Jean Christine Cadano, and Hannah Mae Derilo. Student Pavilion Plate awards were also given to 1st year Architecture students Lloyd Gabriel Curiba (gold), Klen Bryce Ibale (silver), and Ismael Natanauan (bronze). Two awards were given for Landscape Architecture, with Lyza Armecin earning the Gold Award and Kenneth Dano receiving an honorable mention.
Interior Design Gold Award was conferred on Ryan Japhet Gablines, while Nippon Paint Asia Young Designer Awards for 2018 were given to Jhessa Mae Romero (silver) and finalists Cristiane Mae Macabare, Dexter Avenido, Hanzel Ceniza, and Erick Pasculado. Romero also earned an internship at Aidea Philippines for her effort.
Advertising Arts awards were given for best thesis, namely to Oliver Estose (gold), Jon Ahmed Durano, Kevin Ray Berador, Adam Christopher Escaño (silver), and Juliet dela Cruz, Nicole Lagado, and Bryan Velayo (bronze). The best thesis award in Painting went to Hermogines Bensi Jr., while Marti Karlo Acaso bagged the gold medal in Advanced Painting. Cinema also conferred two special awards to Christian Naparota and Chloe Capatoy for their short story entitled “Ka Gwapa Bah” and to Alexis Guinevere Ann Sayson for her short story “Icing.”
Contributors to the SAFAD publication Lantawan also received certificates of recognition.
The event, which was spearheaded by co-chairs Denis Judilla (Fine Arts) and Ralph Su (Architecture), was included in SM Seaside’s celebration of National Arts Month.
