The University of San Carlos, through its Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (DEEE), proudly emerged as the grand winner of the IDEATHON 2025, besting over 50 entries from academic institutions nationwide. The competition was organized by the Communications, Electronics, and Information Systems Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (CEISSAFP) held last November 13, 2025.

With the theme, ”AFP and Academe-Building Strong Partnership for Innovation and Self-Reliance in ICT,” IDEATHON 2025 provided a platform for student innovators and partner universities to develop technological solutions aligned with the operational requirements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Key focus areas included in the event were artificial intelligence applications for defense, tactical communications, and secure encryption systems.
The winning USC entry, EnviroMimic, an AI-assisted Environmental Remodulation system for Covert Tactical Communications. This groundbreaking technology introduces a new approach to secure communications by shaping signals to seamlessly blend with environmental noise signatures, including Philippine radio, acoustic, and optical backgrounds.
EnviroMimic exemplifies USC’s commitment to cutting-edge research in ICT and defense technology. The team behind this innovation consists of B.S. ECE 4 students Irvin Angelo T. Ceniza, Anthony Arbe M. Cinco, Kenn Loyd Y. Pepito, and Ciara Adrianne B. Tiongzon, under the guidance of faculty adviser Engr. Alberto S. Bañacia.
The IDEATHON 2025 ceremony was honored by Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., AFP Chief of Staff, who served as Guest of Honor and Speaker.
Their achievement also comes with a potential research grant of approximately PHP300,000, supporting further development and deployment of their AI-based solution. This success underscores USC’s leadership in engineering education and its ongoing commitment to fostering innovation through collaboration between academe and national defense sectors.
