Ellakim Sasing, a graduate fellow of the USC Department of Biology, emerged as one of the best poster presenters during the 8th International Conference on Natural Products (NatPro8) in Bangkok, Thailand on July 25-27, 2023.
Sasing’s research is entitled, “Anticancer Activity of Calophyllum inophyllum L. (Malpighiales: Calophyllaceae) on Human Colorectal Cancer Cell Line (HCT116).”
Aside from Sasing, the USC contingent was composed of Norielyn Abalos Ph.D., Jessa Angeline Caluza, and Alexandra Pastrano (see photo above).
Dr. Abalos, an Assistant Professor of the Department of Biology, attended the conference as an invited speaker and was also nominated as a member of the Board of Directors of the Asian Society of Natural (ASNP) during the business meeting.
Meanwhile, Sasing and Caluza are currently research fellows in the Department of Biology through the Career Incentive Program (CIP) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). They are graduates of M.S. Biology and recipients of the DOST Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program (ASTHRDP) scholarship. On the other hand, Pastrano is a graduate of B.S. Biology and was a DOST undergraduate scholar.
NatPro8 was organized by the Asian Society of Natural Products (ASNP) and Thammasat University with the theme, “Natural Prospectives for Health.”
ASNP opens the opportunity for Asian researchers to communicate and collaborate in natural products research and industry. The 9th International Conference on Natural Products will be held in Manila, Philippines in 2025.
