The University of San Carlos (USC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Malaysia, on October 10, 2025, marking a new phase of academic cooperation and institutional linkage between the two universities.

UNITEN is a private higher education institution wholly owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malaysia’s largest electricity utility. It is known for its specialized programs in engineering, information technology, business management, and related disciplines. The university is also actively involved in research initiatives in sustainable energy management and engineering, as well as in the development of industry-aligned innovations.
Through the MOU, USC and UNITEN aim to strengthen academic and research collaboration, particularly in areas where both institutions share expertise and institutional priorities. The agreement outlines joint initiatives that include collaborative research, knowledge-sharing activities, and joint applications for research grants. It also creates opportunities for postgraduate cooperation, including the co-supervision of Master’s and Ph.D. projects.
The partnership further opens avenues for student and faculty exchange, as well as internship and on-the-job training placements, allowing both institutions to promote mobility and experiential learning that reflect real-world contexts in energy and engineering sectors.

UNITEN was represented at the signing by its Vice Chancellor, Professor Ir. Dr. Khairul Salleh Mohamed Sahari, and Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and International Affairs, Professor Ir. Dr. Izham Bin Zainal Abidin.
USC was represented by University President Rev. Fr. Francisco Antonio T. Estepa, SVD, Ph.D., together with Rev. Fr. Jesuraj Anthoniappen, SVD, Ph.D. and Angie M. Ceniza-Canillo, Ph.D., Chair, Department of Computer, Information Sciences, and Mathematics.
The partnership forms part of USC’s broader commitment to international academic linkages that advance innovation and promote institutional collaboration in service of education and societal development.
