USC signs MOA with DSWD for livelihood training

The University of San Carlos (USC), through its Center for Social Entrepreneurship (CSE) under the School of Business and Economics, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last August 5, 2019 at the DSWD Field Office in Cebu City.

The aim of the USC and DSWD collaboration is to develop a synergistic model of livelihood opportunities for qualified Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) participants by giving them access to Livelihood Skills Training Program and technical assistance through USC with the overall goal of improving the socio-economic conditions of the participants.

Present during the MOA signing wereFr. Dionisio M. Miranda, SVD (USC President); Melanie B. De Ocampo, CSS, Ph.D. (Dean, School of Business and Economics, SBE); Lauro Cipriano R. Silapan, D.B.A. (Asst. Dean, SBE); Allan O. Gozon, M.B.A. (Manager, CSE); and Ethel H. Dicdican, D.B.A. (Program Manager (Academe), CSE).

Representing DSWD were Regional Director Rebecca P. Geamala; Asst. Regional Director for Operations Shalaine Marie S. Lucero; Rizalina L. Patindol (Regional Program Coordinator, SLP), and different department heads and staff of DSWD FO VII.

Fr. Miranda said during his speech that it is vital to strengthen partnerships among industry, academe and government to further improve the lives of the people. Dir. Geamala said that USC is one of their three partners from the academe and she was very happy with the partnership, which will surely help a lot of DSWD communities in Region 7.
