A harvest of awards at the World Cup of Mooting— the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition!
At the world’s largest, oldest, and most prestigious mooting competition, USC Law wins the following awards and citations:
- Best Over-all Respondent Team in the World
- Octo-Finalist
- Ranked 7th in the Advanced Rounds
- 5th Best Respondent Memorial
- Chrisha Romano-Weigel: 12th Best Oralist
- Edward Dominic Emilio: 48th Best Oralist
These awards and citations were reaped by the USC Law team, which competed among more than 600 law schools from all jurisdictions the world over and out of more than five hundred outstanding oralists in the international rounds.
Each award is an embodiment of USC Law’s tradition of excellence but the most coveted awards were the Best Over-all Respondent Team award and the Best Memorial award. The USC Law team trained and this memorial was written, not only against the backdrop of Typhoon Odette’s devastation of Cebu, but also at a time when both oralist Chrisha Romano-Weigel and head coach Atty. Daryl Bretch Largo were grieving from the loss of Chrisha’s mother and Daryl’s father.
This team has always scored victories in the past World Cups of Mooting but the awards for this year’s Jessup are more than just mooting victories. They are a clear triumph of the human spirit over grief and adversity.
