USC Law sweeps all memorials awards, overall best oralist in 2025 Jessup Philippine rounds

The University of San Carlos College of Law Mooting Team bagged major awards in the National Rounds of the 2025 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition on February 28 to March 2, 2025, at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines.

Out of 28 teams all over the country, the Carolinian team composed of law students Bri Unabia, Yovellie Delubio, Mel Joseph Castro, Jose Patrick Edward Espinosa, and Khylle Zed Mag-aso grabbed all the major memorial awards, namely: 

  • Overall Best Memorial 
  • Best Applicant Memorial 
  • Best Respondent Memorial 

They also ranked first during the preliminary rounds, with a 4-0 record. 

Aside from the team awards, Unabia also won the coveted Overall Best Oralist Award, besting other mooters from various law schools in the Philippines. In addition to Unabia, Delubio ranked 3rd, while Castro secured the 10th spot.

Prior to sweeping the memorial awards in Jessup, the USC Law mooting team also won the Best Memorial in the Southeast Asian Rounds of the 29th Stetson Annual International Environmental Moot Court Competition last January 16-18, 2025, in UP Diliman. 

USC Law has been a consistent performer and has solidified its position in the Jessup Mooting Competition, dubbed the Olympics of mooting. In 2021, the USC team reached the semi-finals of the Jessup Global Rounds, followed by its win as the Best Respondent Team in the World in 2023. 

After winning major awards this year, USC Law will once again face winning teams from approximately 700 law schools around the world in the Jessup Global Rounds, the largest, oldest, and most prestigious mooting competition in the world. The event will be held in Washington D.C., United States, from March 29 to April 5, 2025.

This consistent feat has been made possible by the support of the USC Law Mooting Team’s Head Coach, Assistant Dean Atty. Daryl Bretch Largo; Vice President for Administration Atty. Joan S. Largo; Dean Atty. Jose Glenn Capanas; and assistant coaches Atty. Rhomeljustein Redoble, Atty. Rashid V. Pandi, Atty. Mark Lawrence Badayos, and Atty. J. Priyanka Dalagan.
