Personal Background
Fr. Generoso Ricardo B. Rebayla Jr., SVD is concurrently the Vice Provincial Superior of the Society of the Divine Word Philippine Southern (PHS) Province and Vice President for Administration of the University of San Carlos. He is a religious missionary of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) and was ordained a priest on December 13, 1994.
Fr. Rebayla is a trustee of a number of corporations including Liceo del Verbo Divino (Tacloban City), Holy Name University (HNU) and HNU Medical Center (Tagbilaran City), Word Broadcasting Corporation, Green Enviro Management Systems, Inc., and the Cebu Archdiocesan Museum. He is also House Rector of St. Michael Community in Talamban Campus and is a member of the Archdiocesan Heritage Commission of the Diocese of Cebu.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Accounting from the University of San Carlos, he entered the Divine Word Seminary and eventually earned a Master of Arts in Theology major in Pastoral Ministry. Fr. Rebayla also obtained a Master in Management from the prestigious Asian Institute of Management in 2008.
His background in accounting and finance works to his advantage as he sits as the Chair of the SVD Finance Committee of the SVD PHS Province. Fr. Rebayla also served as the Vice President for Finance of the University of San Carlos from 1999 to 2005, and then again from 2011 to 2017, and as Provincial Treasurer of the SVD PHS Province from 2005 to 2011. Prior to his entry into the priesthood, he also worked as an audit staff of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation in Toledo City and as Night Auditor of the Mandarin Oriental in Makati City.
A prolific photographer, his recent works are seen in coffee table books including NAIC: The Church and its People, The Cebu Almanac 2017: The Reports, and Kamingaw: An Impressionist Portrait of the Bisaya Painter Martino Abellana, all published in 2017. His previous photographic works included the 2015 Anvil awardee Salapi: The Numismatic Heritage of the Philippines and Pagsulay: Churches of Bohol Before and After the 2013 Earthquake, a finalist of the 2015 National Book Awards.
