The University of San Carlos Department of Computer Engineering successfully held the 6th Robotics and Automation Conference in tandem with the 2nd Computer Engineering and Technology Conference (RACCETCon) on July 13, 2018 at the BIG Hotel, Mandaue City, Cebu.
Spearheaded by Christopher James M. Labroador, MEng, RACCETCon was attended by students from various universities in Cebu, as well as industry partners of the University. It was formally opened by Fr. Rogelio N. Bag-ao, SVD, M.A, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, who highlighted the importance of collaboration of various fields in technology. The event was hosted by Engr. Christine Marie I. Gohetia, Software Engineering Cluster Head of the Department of Computer Engineering.
In the Robotics and Automation Conference (RAC), Dr. Jocelyn F. Villaverde (see photo below) from Mapua University, RAC Keynote Speaker, presented the entirety of Industry 4.0. Villaverde shed light on how cyber-physical systems, internet of things (IoT), cloud computing, and cognitive computing have greatly influenced the current industrial revolution in manufacturing technologies.

Aside from Dr. Villaverde, the conference also featured RAC plenary sessions which elaborated on robotic or automation technologies such as an Eye Blink Detection and Stimulation System to Minimize Digital Eye Strain (Engr. Fernandez), NVDI Imaging System using Raspberry Pi (Engr. Cañada), Non-Premix Flame Stabilization using Machine Vision Feedback (Engr. Cañete), and a Virtual Probing Ground (Engr. Eguac).
In the afternoon, Dr. Danilo B. Largo, Office of Research Director, University of San Carlos, discussed about the importance of patenting in the field of computer engineering and technology as keynote speaker of the Computer Engineering and Technology (CETCon), the second half of the RACCETCon. During the CETCon, different topics, researches, and technologies were discussed by various engineers from the different fields of computer technology. A total of seven computer technology topics were discussed which ranged from artificial intelligence to unmanned vehicles. These were presented by Engr. Cañada, Engr. Fabian, Mr. Lao, Engr. Locsin, Engr. Patiluna, Engr. Sinadjan, and Engr. Velayo.
Overall, the event was met with outstanding responses from the participants, presenters, and guests of the conference, exchanging ideas through the discussions and open forums.
