USC inks partnership with Osaka Electro Communication University

Representatives from Osaka Electro Communication University (OECU) in Japan visited the USC Department of Computer Engineering to establish academic linkage and collaboration.

Prof. Seonghee Jeong, faculty member of the Department of Electro-Mechanical Engineering and five graduate students, represented OECU. They were welcomed on July 30, 2018 by administrators of the School of Engineering including SOE Dean Evelyn B. Taboada, Ph.D., Asst. Dean Engr. Ricardo Fornis, SOE Research Council Chair Luzvisminda Bellotendos, Ph.D. and Department of Computer Engineering OIC Linda Saavedra along with some faculty members of the department (see photo above).

This partnership will bolster the goal of improving the capabilities of the USC School of Engineering in the field of Robotics and Mechatronics.

Several activities have already been scheduled in the next four weeks to kickstart the collaboration. Undergraduate students from USC will undergo an introductory course on how to design their robots. This course will be facilitated by the visiting Japanese graduate students with different specializations under Mechatronics from Machine Vision to Human Assistant Robots.

Prof. Jeong will also keynote a small research symposium to showcase his ongoing and planned research topics. The symposium is open to faculty members and researchers from the Departments of Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electonics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.
