Students from the Department of Hospitality and Tourism bagged eight awards in the Cebu Food and Beverage Exposition (CEFBEX) 2018 held on October 11-14, 2018 at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall with the theme “Ultimate Food Venture.”
Kimberly Angelika Baula, Dianne Vira Chua, Amanda Lourdes Tan, and Janelle Rae Untal were named as champions in Creative Cake Decoration while Pierce Daniel, Meg Angelli Dueñas, and Daniel Arquiola were also champions in Fruit Carving by. Eunice Angelika Abao, Carl Griffin Aller, Benjho Antipas, Don Michael Treveño, and Mary Therese Vasquez also claimed the Grand Winner award for Table Setup and Napkin Folding, an event which USC has won in the last four years. Meanwhile, Chris Richard Bencio, Jay Korina Gabucan, and Andrew Dy won first runner-up honors in Pasta Live Cooking, and Joshua Daño was second runner-up in Flair Tending, a skill he practiced in just two weeks. Teams also bagged runner-up awards in mixology (Mel Redeem Jumangit and Thadz Mellares), latte art (Timothy James Gemparo and Marvin Lara), and market basket (Ted Darwin Alvero, Raymund Francis Chiu, Alec Vincent Agang-ang, and Jo Anne Jamero).
Worldbex Services International holds CEFBEX in recognition of Cebu’s vibrant trade sector and its strategic importance in stimulating economic movement in the region. CEFBEX is an annual event and is an exposition of products from existing and emerging food providers, including those who supply cooking, dinner, and kitchen wares. Seminars on food business literacy form a pillar in the annual convention. The schools competition showcase skills and talents in the different categories.
