Personal Background
Fr. Renato A. Tampol, SVD, Ph.D. joins the USC Board of Trustees, bringing with him a wealth of experience in human resource (HR) management. Fr. Tampol earned his Ph.D. (magna cum laude) in this field from the University of Santo Tomas after completing an M.B.A. focusing on HR practices and employee behaviors at the De La Salle University in Dasmariñas. Hailing from Carigara, Leyte, he finished his bachelor’s degree in commerce from the Divine Word University in Tacloban before entering Christ the King Seminary and Divine Word Seminary; he also earned an M.A. Theology from the latter. He was ordained a priest on December 9, 2000.
As an SVD missionary, he served as an assistant parish priest at the St. Therese Mission in Plumtree, Zimbabwe before returning to the Philippines. He then occupied several finance-related positions in the SVD Philippine Central Province between 2006 to 2017. He was appointed as President of Divine Word College of San Jose in Occidental Mindoro from 2017 to 2023 while also serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Divine Word College of Legazpi. At present, he is the President of Divine Word College of Calapan in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
Active in his community, he serves as President of the Mindoro Association of Catholic and Indigenous Schools (MACIS) and Vice President (Region 4) for the Asian Association of School Human Resource Management and Development Practitioners, Inc. (AASHPI). He is also a member of the PNP Advisory Council in Oriental Mindoro. He has published ten papers in international journals on business- and education-related topics, but mostly on HR practices and organizational culture.
