The University of San Carlos’ five-week-long 3D FlexLeaP@USC Training-of-Trainers Workshop Series concluded last Friday, March 19, 2021 with a message from USC’s President, Father Narciso A. Cellan Jr., SVD, D.Comm. This workshop series included over 500 participants from USC and partner higher educational institutions (HEIs) across Regions 6,7, and 8, including 15 trainers and 57 faculty champions. This was made possible through the funding provided by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) under the Revised and Expanded Continuing Professional Education (RECPE).
In his video message, Fr. Cellan said that the recently concluded workshop series was an expression of USC’s solidarity with HEIs to respond to the educational challenges brought about by the pandemic; and a manifestation of the common aspiration to address the educational crisis at the moment. Fr. Cellan’s video message can be viewed here through USC’s Facebook page.
3D FlexLeaP is a year-long project and stands for “Demystifying, Developing, and Demonstrating the Flexible Learning Program Towards an Authentic Outcomes-Based Education at USC.” This project is spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs with strong support from the School Deans. The Training-of-Trainers Workshop Series was held via Zoom on Fridays from February 19 to March 19, 2021. The workshop was packed with presentations from resource speakers, open forums, breakout sessions, and sharing of workshop outputs from participants. The workshop series, from start to finish, was successfully delivered with the collective efforts of the Council of Deans of the seven schools of the University of San Carlos.
The workshop was designed and delivered as a demonstrative course using Canvas Catalog as the Learning Management System, where videos and course materials and resources were made available ahead of time. Topics were covered and delivered via a flipped instruction approach. Participants then attended a three-hour session every Friday via Zoom for the Q & A and workshop output sharing. Topics include Flexible Learning, the Flexible Learning Course Design, Teaching and Learning in a Flexible Environment, and Assessment and Evaluation in a Flexible Learning Environment.
