Three teams represented the University of San Carlos in the Farmer Entrepreneurship Program Youth Challenge boot camp and design thinking workshop held last November 14–17, 2017 in Rizal, Laguna.

The three interdisciplinary groups are Team Ceres (Camara, Literal, Monzon, Romarate and Tabaranza), Team Catalyst (Tio, Tan, Yap, Po and Gerolaga) and Team Bukad (Bentulan, Sanico, Pestano, Alfante and Castañeda) with their coaches Engr. Warren Nuñez, Engr. Jaybee Lacea, and Dr. Angelo Cabije, respectively, attended the boot camp along with Engr. Christine Marie Gohetia, who serves as focal person for the program.

The Jollibee Group Foundation hosts the Youth Challenge inviting students from different universities nationwide to create product, service, or process innovations to promote agriculture and help farmers achieve sustainable livelihood.

Design thinking was the focus of the first day of the boot camp, while the next day was devoted to prototyping the teams’ innovations and preparing their presentations for the final day. Participants had to pitch their ideas to a panel of investors and professional engineers.

All three USC teams were granted PHP100T each for their proposed projects and have until May 2018 to complete their prototypes.
