USC launches Diamond Jubilee celebrations today

The University of San Carlos launched its Diamond Jubilee: the 75th University Charter Anniversary celebration on July 19, 2022 at the Fr. Michael Richartz Conference Center in Talamban Campus.

USC became a University on July 1, 1948. Celebrations leading up to the 75th Charter Anniversary on July 1, 2023 will continue until its culmination on September 8, 2023.

University President Fr. Narciso A. Cellan Jr., SVD, D.Comm. delivered his message relating how the Colegio rose from the ashes of war and shortly became a University in 1948 to the current situation, where USC seeks to rebound from the pandemic years and the devastation of typhoon Odette.

The event featured a message by University President Fr. Narciso A. Cellan Jr., SVD, D.Comm., who weaved a compelling story of the University rising from upheavals in the past (e.g., World War II) and the present (e.g., the COVID-19 pandemic, typhoon Odette).

One video presentation took the audience back through time, featuring era photographs and even rare films of the University dating back to its humble beginnings, the rebuilding after WWII, and up to the present time.

Another video presentation featured the R.I.S.E. initiatives, where the capital campaign for Research, Infrastructure, Scholarships, and Endowments was launched.

Members of the USC Choristers entertained the guests during the program.

Expressions of support for the R.I.S.E. initiative were also aired for the first time during the event, including messages from Eugene S. Acevedo (President and CEO, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation), Jose R. Soberano III (Chairman and President, Cebu Landmasters), Charles Kenneth Co (President, Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Ronald S. Po (President and CEO, Fiesta Beverage Corporation), and Senator Sherwin “Win” T. Gatchalian (Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic Education, Arts, and Culture).

Exhibits of “USC through time,” research, infrastructure, and scholarships await guests at the SAFAD lobby.

Viewing of exhibits and a modest reception followed at the School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Design lobby. USC Board of Trustees Chair Carmelita I. Quebengco thanked the guests for gracing the event with their presence.

Alumni association officers led by Chairman Emeritus Jack S. Gaisano (Chairman and President, Taft Property and Director, VICSAL Development Corp.; 4th from left) attended the event. From left: Engr. Christine Marie I. Gohetia, Engr. Francis John Jurado, Jocelyn C. Cadampog, Gaisano, Marlyn Juban-Mier, Fr.
